A Journey to Wellness

In 2010, I had to retire early from the factory where I worked because I had been overexposed to toxic fumes and my entire body was swollen. I also had weepy blisters and extreme itching all over my body. Washing my body helped to alleviate some of these conditions, but afterwards my skin would become inflamed.

I tried many different products to soothe my skin; not many worked. I also noticed that my skin would become inflamed after I ate certain foods. I had “patch” tests done by a dermatologist which determined that I had an extreme sensitivity to synthetic chemicals, especially a preservative added to commercial soaps. This chemical causes formaldehyde to be released when the soap is used. This information helped point me in the direction of my research. My dermatologist also gave me a clue when he told me that our immune systems have a memory, and that once overexposed to toxins, our immune systems will react to even the slightest exposure of not only the original toxins, but all toxins (and at much lower levels than the initial exposure.) Also, the fact that our immune systems are not as vibrant as we get older, helped me to understand more completely what I needed to do in order to have a good quality of life no matter how old I become. My experience and my research all helped me figure out how I could alleviate my suffering.

When my exposure happened, doctors had no remedy except for steroids. Probably like you, in my live I’veI experienced family members, friends, and even pets experience terrible side effects from steroids. It became especially important to me to find a way to alleviate my suffering without them. My research consistently showed that the problem was rooted in my immune system, so that was the path I pursued. Through trial and error, the answers that led to my relief were held in the discovery that the toxins that I was overexposed to had actually slowly “poisoned” me. I was actually very close to my whole immune system almost completely shutting down! Research showed me that if these toxins could be eliminated from my body, perhaps I would have not only relief but healing.

In the beginning of my suffering, I would go to stores and look for products that would help with the itching and oozing. Sometimes I bought a product that looked promising. (I was on short term disability from the factory where I worked and had very little money after I paid my bills.) If the product didn’t do a complete job, I would check its ingredients and look them up online. From this strategy, I learned which ingredients would work for each problem: itch, swelling, oozing. I found a book on natural soap making that I had from years back. I looked up recipes in that book that included the ingredients from products I bought that were working. This is how the recipes for the bath bar came to be.

Also, I needed to have a shampoo and cleaning soap that would also work. My research resulted in developing products that I could use which not only did not aggravate my condition but helped alleviate some of the symptoms. By 2012 I was feeling better and wanted to share what helped me with others.

It was these products as well as eliminating processed foods that I gradually began to feel better.

In 2012 I started Pattie’s Clean Soaps to help others with similar issues as my own. I hope my story resonates with you and entices you to try my product. My goal and passion is to provide products that work in an industry where few are available.

My journey started with an injury. Then through research, trial and error, I finally found relief. I began selling my products at farmers’ markets in the Bath, New York area, with resoundingly positive feedback, and now I want to provide them to anyone who needs them.

Pattie’s Clean Soaps are a natural, affordable alternative to commercial soaps and shampoos. I procure my pure essential oils from only a few vendors from which I have been buying for years and that I trust.

“Making soap and being able to help someone whose skin has become a source of suffering are two things that make my life fuller each and every day. I have learned that it is the little seeds planted that grow into new life.”
